There’s never a good time to get a traffic ticket. At the very least, a traffic ticket means a fine, driving school or points on your license, and often a bump in your insurance premium. Under worst circumstances, a traffic citation could mean a suspension of your Florida driver’s license or even an arrest. The good news is that you don’t have to take several days off of work to fight a traffic ticket. Kazzi Law can represent you in court and can often get your ticket dismissed without points. Call today to discuss the traffic citation you received.
The Consequences of a Traffic Citation
If you are stopped for a moving violation in Florida, your ticket can lead to a fine, points being added to your license that could lead to a suspension, increased insurance premiums, and more. If you don’t pay your fine or go to driving school or opt to appeal your citation in court within 30 days, your license will be suspended. Driving on a suspended license is a misdemeanor crime, which could result in arrest, your vehicle being towed, and a mandatory court date.
Traffic Ticket Hearing Process
Most people just pay their tickets, not realizing that they have other options. You can fight a ticket in court, but it is a time investment. If you request a hearing date, you will more than likely have to take the day off of work. If the officer attends their court date, it will be your word against theirs. If you miss your court date, the judge will suspend your license.
On the other hand, you can send your ticket to Kazzi Law and have a skilled Florida traffic ticket attorney go through the process on your behalf. If your attorney doesn’t feel like you have a viable traffic defense, they can plead “no contest’ on your behalf. In many cases, the magistrate will waive the points and allow you to pay a smaller fine. This is a cost-effective solution when you consider the potential fines you may have to pay and the time you might miss from work.

The Point System
If you’ve received a ticket in Florida, you probably know about the point system. In addition to the fine, most traffic citations carry three or four points. Although, more serious charges, like hit and run, often carry six points. If you accrue:
- 12 points in 12 months, your license will be suspended for 30 days.
- 18 points in 18 months, your license will be suspended for three months.
- 24 points in 36 months, your license will be suspended for one year.
Once the suspension lifts, your license is not automatically reinstated. You will have to go to the Seminole County Courthouse and get a D6 clearance. From there, you will have to go to the DMV to have a new license issued to you. This can be a tremendous hassle, but a traffic ticket attorney can help you avoid these negative consequences.
When You Need a Traffic Attorney
You don’t necessarily need an attorney for most minor traffic violations. Having an attorney is a cost-effective, smart way to fix your traffic tickets, but if you have the time to attend court or go to driving school, you may be able to handle your ticket yourself.
If you have been charged with a more serious offense — DUI, hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, multiple suspensions, etc. — you need an experienced traffic attorney to represent you. These types of charges can lead to severe penalties like jail, fines, and revocation of your license. Don’t take a chance. Call Kazzi Law today.
